Spotted: little boars in pyjamas!
Little boars can be regularly spotted on the images at Snapshot Hoge Veluwe. Now you can also spot them in the wild. This is why we would like to teach you more about these cute little animals. We also provide some tips on how to improve your changes of spotting them in the wild.
Researchers spotted!
“Why do I sometimes see humans in the images? Why have these not been filtered out? Is someone trying to steal the cameras?” These are examples of questions that the team has come across in the Snapshot Hoge Veluwe forum. In this blog we share more about who these people are, what they do and why they are sometimes caught on camera.
Exposed cameras
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the wildlife cameras that are in the Park do not always remain clean. Far from it, in fact. All 70 of them are checked every 1,5 month by employees or interns of the Hoge Veluwe, but in the meantime a lot can happen. Sometimes the cameras become so covered in dirt and mud that it covers the whole lens. It also seems to be a favourite spot for birds to sit and ‘do their business’. On top of the cameras they can take nice rest while having a good overview of the area, making it a popular landing spot.
Small poles in the ground and vegetation relevés
Sometimes when looking at the pictures, you will not only encounter animals but also some other things. Did you already notice that you often see small poles sticking out of the ground in front of the camera? They are there for a reason! In this blog we will explain why these poles are here and why they are important.
Welcome to Snapshot
We, the team from The Hoge Veluwe National Park, are very excited that you are joining Snapshot Hoge Veluwe and will help us by classifying pictures of our wildlife. We have high expectations for this project and the scientific findings it will result in.
